Each of us has a sound track running in the background, and sometimes front and center in our lives. Some of it is chosen by us and some thrust upon us by the environment we find ourselves immersed in. This soundtrack is constantly informing who we are becoming.
“Part of doing something is listening. We are listening. To the sun. To the stars. To the wind.”
Madeleine L’Engle, Swiftly Tilting Planet
What sounds are you tuning into regularly?
What kinds of things do you hear?
How does your soundtrack affect you?
On the Camino nature has been speaking loudly and regularly. We’ve agreed the birds are supporting us by singing most loudly to keep us on the path when we aren’t sure which way to go.
Some of us hear thunder when a truck rolls down the elevated highway. Some of us hear the truck.
As my Spanish slowly improves I hear caring conversations between friends.
And I’ve heard more than my fair share of chainsaws along the way this time around. Not everyone notices them like I do. It’s fascinating.
Do you hear the same kinds of things I hear? probably not.
Maybe you hear babies cry, lovers’ whispers, or raindrops on window panes.
Let’s open up to the wisdom available through the soundtrack of our lives.
Take time today to notice. Listen on your walk, in your home with your family, at work, and as you drive in the car.
Let’s practice listening.
Share what your hear.
Grateful to walk with you,
Jennie
